Protest erupts in Butwal after Dang picked permanent capital

3 vehicles including of provincial lawmaker vandalized



BUTWAL: Demonstrations have been staged in Butwal after the provincial government decided to pick Dang as the permanent capital of the Province 5.

Demonstrators have blocked the main road of the city by burning tires demanding to make Butwal the permanent capital. Irate protesters have also vandalized a government vehicle.

Demonstrators have even chanted slogans against the provincial government saying that the capital is being picked in the place that has proper infrastructures.

The agitators vandalized the vehicle, Lu 1 Jha 445, carrying Dirgha Narayan Pandey, Chairman of the Social Development Committee of the provincial assembly and the vehicle, Lu 1 Kha 421, of the Planning Division of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Similarly, another vehicle, Lu 1 Jha 449, was also vandalized, police said.

Police have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Province 5 government has registered a proposal in the provincial assembly to make Deukhuri the permanent capital of the province.

Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of the province government Kul Prasad KC presented the proposal before the province assembly.

Earlier, a meeting of the provincial Council of Ministers on Friday morning passed a proposal to make Deukhuri the permanent capital of the province, said Minister KC.

Likewise, it has been decided to name the province Lumbini Province.
