No agreement reached on importing Russian COVID-19 vaccines: Health Ministry

KATHMANDU: The government has clarified that it has not agreed with anyone regarding the import of vaccines against the coronavirus.

Referring to the news that an Indian company has agreed to bring the vaccine under clinical trial in Russia to Nepal, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said there was no agreement on the issue as no vaccine had been developed in the world so far.

He added that the vaccine, which is being developed in different parts of the world, has reached the third stage and if it is allowed to be used by the regulatory body on the general public, it will be brought at the initiative of the government.

Russia’s sovereign wealth fund said on Tuesday had it had agreed to supply 25 million doses of its potential COVID-19 vaccine to Nepal via Trinity Pharmaceuticals.
