Nepal reports 246 new COVID-19 cases, tally jumps to 20,332



KATHMANDU: A total of 246  people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population said.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Sunday afternoon, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that Nepal’s coronavirus caseload has reached 20,332 with the new cases.

The new cases were detected in Kathmandu, Lalitpur,  Bhaktapur, Bardiya, Darchula, Gorkha, Rautahat, Sindhuli, Kaski, Baglung, Lamjung, Syangja, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (East) and Rupandehi. Sunsari, Morang, Dhanusa, Chitwan, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Parsa, Bajhang, Doti, Kailali,

A total of 8,861 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, he said.

Meanwhile, 111 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals and isolation centers after recovery. A total of 14,603 have recovered across the country so far.

At present, 5362 people are in isolation and 10,934 are in quarantines.

Similarly, a woman undergoing treatment at Narayani Voyodha Hospital in Birgunj has succumbed to coronavirus on Saturday evening.

A 68-year-old woman from Birgunj-16 died this evening after being admitted to the hospital for treatment for fever and pneumonia, said Dr. Niraj Singh of Narayani Hospital.

A report received late Friday night had confirmed infection in the women.

With the death, the number of deaths due to coronavirus infection in Parsa district has reached 15.

With this, Nepal’s death toll stands at 57, according to Spokesperson Dr. Gautam.
