KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal today discussed ways out to narrow down the intra-party rift with Prime Minister KP Oli at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar.
The meeting is considered meaningful as it has been held at least a week after PM Oli unilaterally postponed Tuesday’s Standing Committee (SC) meeting.
However, Dahal had continued with the meeting participated by 29 SC members, mostly of the Dahal-camp.
Describing the unilateral decision to postpone the SC meeting as “unfortunate”, the meeting had entrusted Chairman Dahal to hold talks with PM Oli and settle the disputes and convene the meeting at the earliest.
The ruling NCP is caught in a quagmire as two leaders – PM Oli and Chairman Dahal – are at loggerheads in recent times.
The Dahal-led faction has been demanding Prime Minister Oli’s resignation from either one of the posts of the party Chairman and the premiership.
