KATHMANDU: Road connectivity has been disrupted at several locations across the country due to rainfall, landslides, road subsidence and erosion, according to Nepal Police.
The Police Headquarters said transportation services have been affected along the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum, Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, Mechi Highway in Ilam, Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubesi road in Rasuwa, Nagma–Gamgadhi road in Mugu, Bheri Corridor in Rukum West and Salleri–Lukla road section in Solukhumbu.
Considering the risk of possible flooding along the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, authorities have restricted all types of vehicles from operating on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section from 6 pm to 4 am. Vehicles are allowed to operate from 4 am to 6 pm.
Similarly, all types of vehicles have been prohibited from operating along the Kanti Lokpath from 5 pm to 5 am during the monsoon season.
The Mechi Highway has been completely obstructed at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 after heavy rainfall turned the road muddy. An alternative route is available in the area.
Several sections of the Arniko Highway have also been completely blocked after landslides and road subsidence in the Jirokilo, Kodari and Liping areas of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.
Traffic along the Lamabagar–Ramechhap road section has been disrupted at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5, Dolakha, after the Samakoshi River eroded part of the road. An alternative route has been opened through the premises of Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative.
Likewise, the Salleri–Lukla road under the tourist road section in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu, and the Mid-Hill Highway near Kade Pingwa Khola in Laligurans Municipality-9, Tehrathum, have been blocked by landslides.
Police have urged the public to remain cautious as the risk of landslides, floods and road erosion remains high during the monsoon. Travellers have been advised to obtain updated information about road conditions from concerned authorities before beginning their journey.
