Over 1,000 stranded Nepalis return home from abroad

KATHMANDU: A total of 1,014 Nepali citizens stranded in different countries due to the Covid-19 pandemic were repatriated from chartered flights on Saturday.

Two dead bodies of Nepali migrant workers were also brought home, it is said.

The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Office said that altogether 11 international chartered flights took place on Saturday from the TIA.

Six chartered flights were held in the domestic sky on Saturday, the TIA Office said.

National flag carriers Nepal Airlines brought 265 passengers and two children from Dubai of the UAE and 149 passengers and a child from Kuwait. Similarly, 258 passengers and two dead bodies were brought from Riyadh, the TIA Office said in a statement.

The TIA Office stated that aircraft of Nepal Airlines have flown to Kula Lumpur and Doha to airlift more Nepalis.

Furthermore, the Himalaya Airlines repatriated 143 passengers and three kids from Abu Dhabi and 153 passengers from Doha.

Likewise, 136 passengers and a child arrived home from Abu Dhabi in a plane of Etihad Airways.

According to the TIA Office, 168 passengers and a child were repatriated from Sharjah of the UAE in an aircraft of Air Arabia.

On Sunday, 13 chartered flights are scheduled to fly to different destinations.
