Prachanda rules out immediate issuance of ordinance

KATHMANDU: At the time when speculations are rife that the government will bring an ordinance to pave way for the split of political parties, Nepal Communist Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has ruled out the possibility of any such ordinance any time soon.

Briefing the Standing Committee members on his meet with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Prachanda tried to assure the leaders that issuance of any such ordinance immediately was unlikely.

“President Bhandari and PM Oli have said that such ordinance will not be brought now,” said NCP Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha quoting Dahal.

Observers have to note that the abrupt prorogation of the budget session of the parliament has come as the first step towards bringing the ordinance.

It should be noted that the government cannot bring ordinances when the Parliament is ongoing.

Moreover, quite a few agendas and bills such as the bill on the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, citizenship bill, and the endorsement of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) were still undecided in the Parliament.
