KATHMANDU: Fifteen Nepali porters who had gone with foreigners to trek around Mt Makalu region have been stranded in Sabhapokhari.
They have been stranded at Bahrabise of Sabhapokhari rural municipality-2 of Sankhuwasbha district due to lockdown.
Five foreigners – two each from Australia and Canada and one from France – who had gone with the porters had been rescued in a Kailash Air helicopter on March 31.
Even though the foreigners were rescued, the porters are still stuck in Sabhapokhari area, said Ratna Subba, chief of the rural municipality.
According to Subba, they are currently staying in a tent put up on a lawn near a police post based in the rural municipality for the last 36 days.
While the eight stranded porters are from Kathmandu, seven are from Tahanun.
Mt Makalu trek is a 22-day adventure trek in North east part of Nepal that offers the view of the tallest mountains and unique cultures of Nepali people.
