Spain confirms over 100,000 COVID-19 cases; deaths reach 9,053

OVIEDO: Spain has confirmed 102,136 cases of COVID-19 so far. It has also confirmed 9,053 fatalities, a data released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday said.

A total of 864 people lost their lives over the last 24-hour period — the highest number yet.

The country has registered over 800 deaths for five straight days, reports said.

Likewise, some 7,719 people have been confirmed to have the disease. Meanwhile, 3,388 have recovered so far.

In total, more than 22,000 infected have recovered from the coronavirus in Spain so far.

Spain’s health minister, Salvador Illa, stated that the government has seen a ‘stabilization’ of the new cases.

Spain’s testing capacity has remained to 15,000-20,000 tests per day, according to reports.

Some six healthcare workers in Spain have died from COVID-19. In terms of total deaths, Spain is the second-worst affected country.

The coronavirus has so far killed more than 42,400 people infecting over 862,200 globally, according to figures. (With inputs from Agencies)
