Lawmaker demands strict measures against social anomalies

KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Binda Pandey has urged the government to launch a campaign that would fight against ill practices such as acid attack, witchcraft, dowry, and other criminal activities against women prevailing in the Nepalis society.

Speaking at a discussion at the parliament on Sunday, parliamentarians asked the government to take strict measures against those involved in such activities.

Lawmaker Pandey had registered a motion of urgent public importance in today’s session emphasizing a campaign to eliminate ill practices in the society.

Pandey said around 13 women lost their lives in the name of dowry. She added that over 300 women have become victims of domestic violence and abuse.

Lawmaker Pandey also emphasized the need for eliminating the dowry system while calling for ensuring equal rights to women on property.

She also demanded strict regulation of the sale of acid in the country and demanded life imprisonment to the attackers.
