LUCKNOW: Identifying the porous Indo-Nepal border as a potential source of the spread of coronavirus in India, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to hold awareness panchayats in villages in the area.

A meeting between the health and panchayati raj departments was held on Friday.

Seven UP districts -Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Sidhharthnagar and Maharajganj-are located along Nepal.

Residents on both sides have affinal ties, which increases the chances of unchecked movement of people from Nepal to India, Indian media reported.
