New rules for operating foreign academic institutions

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) has brought new guidelines in regard to academic institutions running their higher education with affiliation from foreign universities and institutions.

The Ministry introduced the new guidelines by amending the previous guidelines 2059 BS.

According to the decision, the academic institutions operating with the affiliation from foreign universities and institutions need to maintain physical distance from the industrial estate and main road. They should have an access road for the fire engine and ambulance.

Similarly, the academic qualifications of the teaching staff must be at least a second division in the Master’s Degree in the related subjects.

However, the institutions running Master’s Level programs should have at least a Ph.D. faculty member and Master’s Degree holder for Engineering and Information Technology.

Furthermore, the principal’s qualification must be Master’s in Nursing for the nursing program and 25 percent of the teaching faculties should have their Master’s Degree qualification.

Other faculty members with Bachelor’s in Nursing should be registered in the Nursing Council for the nursing course.
