Unified Socialist accuses govt of shielding corrupt individuals

KATHMANDU: The Unified Socialist has accused the government of protecting corrupt individuals and failing to curb rampant corruption in the country.

General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal made the statement while unveiling the decisions of the party’s central committee meeting on Monday.

The meeting concluded that corruption is widespread, with the government allegedly shielding those involved. It demanded strict action against corrupt individuals and fraudsters and called for the return of funds involved in cooperative scandals.

The party also announced its decision to oppose the recently introduced ordinance, claiming it was crafted to benefit land mafias, black marketeers, revenue evaders, middlemen, corrupt figures, smugglers, and brokers by misleading the parliament.

The Unified Socialist urged the government to focus on making the national economy sustainable and employment-oriented. It also called for dialogue to resolve the Taplejung cable car dispute and requested timely payment for milk and sugarcane producers.

General Secretary Bhusal criticized the government, labeling it as incompetent and oppressive. He stated that the meeting approved an action plan aimed at raising fundamental issues among the public and guiding Nepal’s politics in the right direction.

The party also demanded the swift release of Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi, who has reportedly been held hostage since last year.

Additionally, the meeting passed a political report on the current national and international situation, along with a review of party rules, regulations, and a general convention assessment with various suggestions.
