SC allows review of verdict to acquit accused in Ram Hari murder case

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has allowed a review of the verdict acquitting the accused in the murder of businessman Ram Hari Shrestha.

Shrestha was abducted from Kathmandu and taken to Chitwan where he was killed.

Hearing a writ petition filed by the government against the verdict, the court allowed reviewing the decision to acquit the then Brigadier Commander of Maoist’s People’s Liberation Army, Shaktikhor Division.

A bench of SC Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Manoj Kumar Sharma on Thursday allowed the review of the verdict.

The Office of Attorney General has filed a review petition at the apex court in the third week of August.

The joint bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC and Justice Tanka Bahadur Moktan, on its decision of March 1, had offered the clean cheat to murder alleged Maoist combatant Govinda Bahadur Batala alias Jeevit citing the evidence made available to the court does not establish that the alleged was involved in the assault of Shrestha.
