Govt requests Dr. KC to call off hunger strike

KATHMANDU: The government has requested Dr. Govinda KC to withdraw his hunger strike.

On Thursday, the government Spokesperson and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali said that it would not be appropriate to hold a strike and other agitations at a time when the situation in the country is abnormal.

He said that the rest of the issues could be discussed after the risk of coronavirus subsides.

“The situation in the country is the difficult situation now because of the pandemic,” he said, “Today we have lost a good doctor. Are agitation and sit-in appropriate at this time? If there are some issues, they can be discussed later.”

Dr. KC is currently holding his 19th hunger strike demanding reform in Nepal’s medical education sector.
