CHITWAN: A total of 139 people have been found infected with scrub typhus and 31 with dengue in the district since July 16.
Scrub typhus is a form of typhus caused by the intracellular parasite called Orientia tsutsugamushi.
Symptoms include headache, muscle pain, fever, cough and gastrointestinal symptoms.
Dengue viruses spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species. Symptoms include fever, aches, pains, rashes, nausea and vomiting.
Cities of the district were flooded due to rain water one week ago.
The dengue mosquito lays its eggs on the walls of water-filled containers. The eggs hatch when deluged in the water and can survive for months.
