KUALA LUMPUR: A video showing a Nepali security guard being thrashed by Malaysian police, went viral on social media on Saturday.

The video showed Malaysian Police thrashing the Nepali security guard. Earlier, it was unclear whether the guard was a Nepali. However, later it came to the fore that the victim was a Nepali working as a security guard working at the condominium car park in Jalan Madrasah, Wangsa Maju.

Police have initiated an investigation into a video showing the guard being beaten with a stick in the parking lot.

Wangsa Maju District Police chief Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail stated that investigation showed the incident happened on July 7.

“It is believed that the incident involved the suspect, a Pakistani national, and a Nepali working as a security guard at the building,” said Ismail.

“An investigation paper under Section 324 of the Penal Code has been opened. The cause of the incident is being probed, and we are seeking the parties involved to come forward immediately to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement today.

The victim, meanwhile, has yet to lodge a complaint at the police.

The 44-second video, which went viral, showed a man slapping and beating another man, believed to be a foreigner in security guard’s uniform, with a stick.
