KATHMANDU: American cricketer Harmeet Singh has joined Janakpur Bolts as captain for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Janakpur Bolts announced Singh’s signing and his appointment as captain through social media on Saturday.
The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder played the first two editions of the NPL with Sudurpaschim Royals, helping the team reach the final in both seasons.
In the first edition, Singh scored 28 runs and took eight wickets in five matches. In the second season, he scored 133 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of more than 166 and claimed 12 wickets at an economy rate of 6.18.
Singh was part of the Indian team that won the 2012 Under-19 World Cup and currently represents the United States national team. He has scored 242 runs and taken 31 wickets in 29 T20 internationals.
Janakpur Bolts won the inaugural NPL title under Anil Sah’s captaincy. In the second edition, Anil Sah, South Africa’s Wayne Parnell and Namibia’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton shared leadership responsibilities.
Janakpur Bolts CEO Niroj Khatiwada said Singh had been entrusted with the captaincy as the franchise prepares for the new season with “new energy, new thinking and new determination.”
He said strong leadership, alongside talented players, would be crucial to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
