As many as 38 die in monsoon-related disasters

KATHMANDU: Some 38 people have died due to various natural disasters across the country this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs has said.

The Ministry said as many as 2009 households have been directly affected by natural disasters, particularly landslides, causing an economic loss worth approximately Rs 133 million.

Likewise, floods, landslides, and inundation have resulted in destruction of some 84 houses across the country, it said.

Natural disasters include floods, landslides, fire and even lightning.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting Division had earlier warned people to take necessary precautionary measures with the onset of the monsoon.
