Gamblers remanded to 7 days in custody



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office on Thursday remanded 25 gamblers arrested from a VIP gambling den to seven-day in custody starting from the date of arrest.

According to Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, DSP Umesh Lamshal, the gamblers have to spend at least two more days in police custody as they have already spent five days in custody.

14 out of 25 arrested from the gambling den had moved the Supreme Court with a habeas corpus petition claiming their detention to be illegal. The apex court is hearing the case today as well.

A police squad from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj on Sunday had arrested 25 gamblers and confiscated Rs 2.67 million stake money from them from a house Bikram Gautam at Pipalmarga of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3.
