KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has formed a committee to probe the killing of cows in Surkhet.
Issuing a statement on Saturday, the ministry said that the four-member committee will be headed by Deputy Secretary at the ministry Sagarmani Pathak.
The committee has been entrusted to submit a report on the incident within 15 days.
Twenty-three cows being transported to Dailekh from Nepalgunj were found dead in the Katkuwa jungle of Birendranagar on Friday. It is learnt nine were pushed down from a cliff. Over 150 cows have been found injured.
Provisions of Criminal (Code) Act 2017 prohibit the killing of cow and oxen, and if found guilty, the perpetrator(s) must serve 3-year-imprisonment.
