Citizens under scrutiny thru various software

KATHMANDU: The Nepal government has collected details of citizens through different software by contracting out software companies. It has not only infringed on the citizens’ right to privacy but also bled the state coffer, said experts said.

The citizens’ details are being collected in the name of passports distribution by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, voter’s identity card by Election Commission, Nepal, smart license by the Department of Transport among others by using different software.

Meanwhile, the Department of National Identity Card and Civil Registration is spending over Rs 11 billion on creating software to this effect, bleeding state’s coffer.
