UN Under-Secretary-General praises Nepal’s peacekeeping contributions

KATHMANDU: UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix has appreciated Nepal’s contribution in peacekeeping operations.

Lacroix thanked Nepal for contributing its peacekeepers, without caveats, for more than six decades.

Referring to Nepal for encouraging female recruitment in Nepali security forces, Lacroix praised Nepal for meeting the UN target of female representation in its security forces during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Ishwor Pokhrel.

During the meeting held in New York, they discussed issues related to the UN peacekeeping, including its role in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in the areas of its deployment.

Likewise, Minister Pokhrel expressed his hope that a renewed collective commitment of the UN member states would help peacekeeping missions deliver effectively on their mandates.
