US air strikes in Iraq and Syria kill at least 18



BAGHDAD: Eighteen militia fighters were killed and more than 50 wounded following three US air strikes in Iraq on Sunday, international media reports said.

At least four local Kataib Hizbullah commanders were among the killed when the strike targeted the militia group’s headquarters near the western Qaim district on the border with Syria, the reports said.

The Pentagon said it had targeted three locations of the Iranian-backed Shia Muslim militia group in Iraq and two in Syria.

This US airstrike came in response to the attack Kataib Hizbullah carried out more than 30 rockets on Friday which killed the US civilian contractor and injured four US service members and two members of the Iraqi Security Forces near the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.
