Shambhu Bharati convicted in Sudan scam lands in police net



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Shambhu Bharati, an agent of the contractor company involved in the high-profile Sudan embezzlement scam.

A squad of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Shambhu Bharati from Bhaisepati of Lalitpiur on Friday morning, DIG Niraj Shahi told Khabarhub.

The SC had convicted Bharati in the multi-billion scam and slapped him with a one-year jail sentence along with a fine of Rs 142 million.

On May 30 2016, the SC had convicted former Inspectors General of Nepal Police – Om Bikram Rana, Hem Bahadur Gurung and Ramesh Chand Thakuri – along with Shambhu Bharati, an agent of the contractor company, in the high-profile Sudan scam.
