Pakistani military plane crash death toll mounts to 17



ISLAMABAD: The  death toll from the Pakistani plane crash has reached 17 as two more civilians who sustained injuries passed away in course of treatment, Pakistani authorities said.

Five crew members and 12 civilians were killed after a small military aircraft crashed into a residential area in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi.

According to Farooq Butt, rescue spokesman, 12 people sustained injuries in the accident. The crash resulted in a large fire which destroyed several houses.

Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad, is the site of the army’s headquarters. The cause behind the plane crash is yet to ascertained.

The residential area where the incident occurred had been cordoned off by military personnel and rescue workers, according to news agency AFP.
