Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister resigns on corruption charges

PORT MORESBY: Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, has resigned. O’Neill led the country since 2011.

Facing a string of cabinet resignations, O’Neill sensed revolt and it looked certain that a vote of no confidence would replace him.

He announced his resignation on the floor of parliament on Wednesday. He was embroiled in corruption case involving a multi-billion-dollar French and U.S. backed gas deal. (Agencies)
