Poudel faction chalking strategy after Deuba’s ‘unilateral’ decision

KATHMANDU: The dissenting faction of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has started discussions after President Sher Bahadur Deuba ‘unilaterally’ extended his tenure by one year.

Deuba, through the Central Working Committee meeting of the party that was boycotted by the dissenting factions, had extended his tenure by a year.

NC had announced to hold the 14th General Convention of the party in February 2021 through the meeting that was not attended by the senior Ram Chandra Poudel and leader Krishna Prasad Situala-led factions.

The leaders of the Poudel-led faction had gathered at the Chaksibari-based house of leader Prakashman Singh on Saturday.

Senior leader Poudel, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala and Prakashman Singh among others were present in the meeting.

They have decided to boycott the central committee meeting until an agreement in a package is reached with President Deuba terming the decision as unilateral.
