Rape-accused Siddha Baba to face 10 yrs in jail if allegation proven

SUNSARI: The bail-hearing scheduled for Krishna Bahadur Giri, popularly known as Siddha Baba, was postponed for Sunday after the time was over while recording his statements.

Judge of Sunsari District Court Dharma Raj Paudel recorded Siddha Baba’s statements after he was produced at the court by the police, said Gopal Prasad Giri, spokesperson at Sunsari District Court.

Women human rights activists shouted slogans demanding stringent action against Siddha Baba on the premises of the court while the recording of statements was underway inside the court yesterday.

The District Government Attorney Office has filed a case against Siddha Baba accusing him of committing a crime in line with the National Criminal Procedure Act, 2017.

The audio record produced at the court in which he requests the victim to withdraw the case has already been verified as authentic.

The court is likely to release him on a general date or remand him to the judicial custody for further investigation again after bail-hearing on Sunday. If the allegation is proven, Siddha Baba will be sentenced to  7 to 10 years in jail.

District Court Sunsari on December 23 had remanded rape-accused Siddha Baba to 3 more days in judicial custody for investigation.

Police on December 2 had arrested Siddha Baba from the ICU of Birat Nursing Home on the charge of attempting to rape his own follower.
