KATHMANDU – The Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project has announced it in a public notice on Jestha 24 that it would remove all physical structures from Kalanki – Chakrapath – Dhobi Khola section of the Ring Road.
All the physical structures which fall in the periphery of 31 meters from the middle of the road will be removed. Official letters mentioning the requirement of removal of the physical structures have been sent to all the concerned agencies and departments.
Two months have passed since the day of publication of the public notice, structures are still standing there.
Amrit Mani Rimal, project manager of the Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project says some 2,057 trees are to be removed for completing the project. China is funding the road expansion work by investing Rs 6 billion.
Even after communicating with the concerned agencies and departments two months before regarding all that expansion work has not started yet.
“The work is being delayed all due to the compulsory process and procedure to be followed at the official level,” says Rimal adding further that trees have been marked for being cut and most probably these marked trees will be cut on and from 1st Asoj.
The length of road goes for 11.6 km and this section of the road is the second section of the Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project. The DPR (Detailed Project Report) is being prepared with full pace.
The work of expansion of the Ring Road in Kathmandu is expected to be completed within 4 years from the date of initiation. The China government has already completed the road expansion of Koteshwor-Kalanki section of the Ring Road measuring the length of 11.39 km.
A total of 150 electricity-poles have to be relocated during the road expansion work from Kalanki to Dhobikhola, shares Rimal with Khabarhub. “These poles are likely to be relocated and not many physical structures are to be removed,” concluded Rimal.
