KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation has banned purchase and sale of around 450 plots of land in the Kathmandu Valley.
The ministry took the move following a taskforce’s recommendations formed in this regard a week ago. The taskforce was formed under the coordination of Bishwo Raj Marasini, chief of the Dillibazaar Land Revenue Office.
The move has been aimed at bringing the public lands used by individuals and organizations under government’s control, according to an official at the Ministry.
Several plots of land have been found to have encroached upon or being registered in the name of an individual or an organization during a study, according to Gopi Nath Mainali, Secretary at the Ministry.
The taskforce has submitted its report after investigating public lands at various places being used by individuals and organizations, including the one at Lalita Niwas, Baluwatar.
The Ministry, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have been investigating on the issue.
