KATHMANDU: A youth in Sunsari district committed suicide after a ward office declined to issue him a recommendation letter for citizenship.

Hari Mandal of Duhabi-3 hanged himself to death after the ward office declined his request to issue the recommendation letter, reports Naya Patrika Daily.

Although Mandal had been visiting the office time and again, ward Chairman Madhav Bhandari had been refusing to issue the letter citing lack of required documents.

Mandal’s brother Pramod Mandal had got citizenship by birth in 2063 BS. Hari had reached the ward office seeking the recommendation letter with a birth certificate and his school’s certificate.

The office declined to issue the recommendation as his parents don’t have citizenship certificates.
