Over 18,000 security personnel to be deployed for 13th SAG

KATHMANDU: All necessary security arrangements have been prepared in the coordination of all four security agencies in the country in view of the upcoming 13th South Asian Games (SAG).

The mega sports event, where various 26 sport disciplines will be organized in 30 separate venues, is going to be held from 1-10 December in Nepal.

Altogether 3,228 players from the SAARC-member countries, including 648 from Nepal, are participating in the games.

To make the event more ‘organized’, ‘secured’, ‘memorable’ and ‘historical’, the SAG Security Coordination Committee has been formed in the coordination of Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal as per the 13th South Asian Games-2019 Organization and Management (First Amendment) Procedure-2076 BS.

The committee comprises Nepal Army (NA), Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF) and National Investigation Department.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the Committee has decided to deploy at least 700 traffic police personnel to streamline the traffic movement during the event.

Similarly, Nepal Police will mobilize more than 10,000 of its personnel.

Likewise, AFP Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Suraj Kumar Shrestha shared that over 5,000 security personnel from APF will be assigned while over 3,000 NA personnel will be mobilized to make ensure safety and security throughout the event.

Furthermore, more than 2,000 volunteers will be deployed to facilitate the participants including representatives, judges among others coming from SAARC-member countries whose number will stand at 2,209.
