Normal life hit as mercury dips to 1 degree Celsius in capital



KATHMANDU: Normal life in the Kathmandu Valley has been affected with the minimum temperature going down to 1 degree Celsius on Thursday morning. Perhaps it is the coldest temperature of the year.

The temperature was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday while the mercury dipped to 3.2 On Tuesday.

According to a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Bibhuti Pokharel, mercury continues to fall with each passing day this winter.

Meanwhile, the temperature has declined in various districts of the Terai lately.

Cold waves and fog are hitting hard the people in Terai, especially the children and elderly.

Likewise, according to the latest statistic of the Department, the lowest temperature recorded on Wednesday was minus 6.5 degrees Celsius in Jumla.

The minimum temperature in Dipayal was 4.7 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees Celsius in Dang, 8.5 degrees Celsius in Pokhara, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Simara, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Dhankuta and 4.0 degrees Celsius in Okhaldhunga.
