Case filed against Nayab Subba for embezzling Rs 150 million

KATHMANDU: What is the permanent government, bureaucracy, for? It is for convenience to citizens with the delivery of service and entitlement.

For delivering service, the government staff get remuneration as a monthly salary. But, some government employees are indulged in amassing property rather than public service delivery. The latest case signals how bureaucracy is getting dysfunctional with corrupt staff.

Nayab Subba, a non-gazetted first-class officer, at Land Revenue Office, Simara, Madan Prasad Gupta has amassed the property of Rs 150 million which does not have a legal source of income at all. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) finally netted him.

Currently working as officiating chief of the Land Revenue Office, Gupta stashed such a huge amount in 22 years since 2047BS. With this, the CIAA filed a case against him at the Special Court on Tuesday.

The income Gupta made during this period with a legitimate source is only Rs 45 million. But the investigation found that he amassed the property worth Rs 148 million which has no legitimate source at all. The property Gupta has now is of Rs 191 million.

Gupta’s relatives including spouse Rita Devi and sons have also been named in the case in this regard, for they were found to be the accomplice in the corruption.
