National women’s volleyball players honored with Rs 300,000 each

KATHMANDU: The government has felicitated the Nepali National Women Volleyball team with the cash prize for their historic win in the AVC Asian Senior Women Central Zone Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Nepal had defeated Maldives 3-0 in the final match of the championship held in Bangladesh on November 14. This was the first time any volley team of Nepal has brought the gold home from an international volleyball tournament.

At a program organized here today to extend best wishes to the players playing in the upcoming 13th South Asian Games to be held in Nepal, Minister for Finance Dr. Yuwaraj Khatiwada and Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Sunar (Bishwakarma) among others feted the women volleyball players and their coach.

Each player was awarded a purse of Rs 300,000.

The government had announced the cash prize worth Rs 300,000 to each player following their historic win in the Championship.

On the occasion, Minister Khatiwada said that the upcoming 13th SAG was viewed as a promotional event of Visit Nepal 2020. Stating that SAG would play an important role in making Visit Nepal 2020 a success, he said that the regional game would also play a significant role in resolving regional, political and economic issues.

He shared that the government had mooted a plan to construct a well-equipped covered hall for volleyball, the national game of Nepal.

The Minister also said that the government was mulling a remarkable increase in the cash prize for the players who clinch in the international matches including the upcoming 13th SAG.

According to him, the government will make the public about the increase after the proposal gets approved by the council of ministers.
