Driver involved in killing Dr Joshi at New Baneshwar held in Ramechhap

KATHMANDU: The driver who absconded after hitting Dr Prabhu Joshi to death at New Baneshwar on Sunday morning has landed in police net.

The driver has been identified as Buddhi Kumar Koju of Surya Binayak Municipality, Bhaktapur, said SP Uttam Raj Joshi of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu.

Koju was arrested along with the bus, Ba 3 Kha 614, involved in the accident in Ramechhap district based on a CCTV footage.

The CCTV footage shows that the bus had reached Ramechhap from New Bus Park via New Baneshwar and Kavre. The investigation is still underway, according to the police.

Dr Prabhu Joshi, 72, of Nishan Hospital had died in a hit-and-run while he was out for morning walk at New Baneshwar at around 6:15 am on November 24.

Joshi’s body was found lying on the road with its head badly damaged.

Joshi, who hails from New Baneshwar, was currently working as a doctor at the ICU Department of Ishan Children and Women’s Hospital at New Road. He had previously worked at TU Teaching Hospital. Dr Joshi’s wife Lalita Joshi is also a doctor by profession. She is a gynecologist.

Joshi’s body was taken to TU Teaching Hospital for postmortem. Postmortem for the body is yet to be done.
