KATHMANDU: A day after quitting the government, the Samajbadi Party Nepal (SPN) has decided to withdraw its support to the government.

A crucial meeting of the central committee held at Balkumari in Lalitpur on Wednesday decided to withdraw its support to the Prime Minister K P Oli-led government.

“We joined the government with the assurance of constitution amendment and addressing the grievances of the people of Madhes and other disgruntled communities,” Ganga Shrestha, organizational department chief told Khabarhub.

He said that the party will now play the role of active opposition in the parliament.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Law, Upendra Yadav had on Tuesday tendered his resignation citing dissatisfaction over Prime Minister Oli’s lack of responsiveness towards the party’s demands.

The Samajbadi Party Nepal, which had joined the government in June 2018 following a two-point agreement, is making a formal announcement on Wednesday.

The party has 17 lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
