Ballot papers reach all Chief Returning Officers’ Office

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has dispatched the ballot papers and the voter identity cards to the office of all the Chief Returning Officers for the purpose of the by-elections.

The by-elections are taking place on November 3 for the members of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly and the office-bearers of the local level.

Election Commission’s spokesman Raj Kumar Shrestha said that all the materials including the ballot papers and the voter identity cards have reached the office of the Chief Returning Officer.

According to him, the responsibility of transporting the ballot papers and the voter ID cards was assigned to the Nepal Army as these are the sensitive materials.

The Army had transported these materials to places with road access in vehicles and to the remote places by helicopter.

It is stated that there are 52 different kinds of ballot papers for the by-election. The election is taking place for a total of 52 seats including one House of Representatives member, three State Assembly members and 43 local level posts.

The local level posts for which the by-election is taking place include one Sub-metropolitan City mayor, three Rural Municipality chair, one vice-chair and the municipality and rural municipality ward chairs.

The Election Commission has prepared 52 types of ballot papers for the by-election.

Twenty-one candidates are contesting in the by-election for one seat of the House of Representatives member while 43 candidates are in the fray for the three posts of a member of the State Assembly.

Similarly, 273 candidates are in the race for 48 posts at the local level.

An election campaign is in full swing in 52 places of 37 districts where the by-election is taking place.

The top leaders of the political parties contesting in the by-election are electioneering in these places creating the election fervor.
