Prison Hospital begins dental service



KATHMANDU: The Prison Hospital, Nepal’s only health facility providing treatment service to jailbirds, has started providing dental services for the inmates.

The Central Jail Jagannathdeval was established in 1971 BS. However, the health services were provided to inmates since 2020 BS only.

The Prison Hospital started rendering health examination service to the inmates from a room. It has been expended to a 30-bed well-equipped hospital from last year and has added new services.

According to Dr Sachin Yadav, medical superintendent of the hospital, the medical service has been expanded keeping in mind the health of inmates.

The hospital provides out-patient department service, dermatological service, internal service, psychiatric services, eyes, tuberculosis, and leprosy cure services.

The hospital has a total of 67 employees. The central jail currently has a total of 3,208 inmates.

Dr Yadav informed that the prison hospital has also set up separate wards for male and female inmates.

According to him, the hospital is providing treatment services to around 150 jailbirds a day.
