Kailash Bikash Bank ‘involved’ in looting 50 mln from Agriculture Dev Bank



KATHMANDU: In an unexpected turn of event, Kailash Bikash Bank has been found to be ‘involved’ in the hacking of around Rs 50 million from the Agriculture Development Bank Ltd, according to a police investigation.

The Agriculture Development Bank Ltd has confirmed that a total of Rs 47.03 million has been siphoned off by hackers from its Lahan-based branch on Tuesday night.

The amount has been found to be transferred to various places. According to the police investigation, Rs 1.5 million was transferred to Kailash Development Bank.

SSP Sahakul Thapa informed at a press conference in Kathmandu saying, “Among the total amount of money looted, Rs 1.5 million has been transferred to the master account of the Kailash Development Bank.”

SSP Thapa said that the police would initiate an investigation on the issue with the support of Nepal Rastra Bank. “We will urge the Nepal Rastra Bank for the cooperation,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 12 people, including some bank staffers and hundi operators, from various locations.

Police have suspected the involvement of a person, currently residing in India, behind the robbery. “According to the investigation, the mastermind of this hacking is currently in India,” SSP Thapa said adding that he has appointed 11 agents in Nepal.
