KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has banned vehicles from overtaking plying the Thankot-Nagdhunga road section – the busiest entry points to the Kathmandu Valley.
The decision has been made to ensure road safety.
The Division has introduced some measures to facilitate the outflow of passengers from the Kathmandu Valley during Dashain, Tihar and Chhat to curb possible accidents as well as overcharging of fare, double-ticketing, and blackmailing.
According to MTPD Chief and Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the traffic police will conduct special checking on both private as well as public vehicles four times a day at various places in the Valley.
SP Dhakal said an additional 430 human resources would mobilize for regular checking at around 368 places in the Valley such as Kalanki, Nagdhunga, New Buspark, Swoyambhu, Gaushala, Chabahil, Jagati, Koteshwor, Balkhu, Satdobato, Sundhara, Dakshinkali, and Old Bus Park among other places.
A total of 750 traffic personnel will be mobilized, SP Dhakal informed.
Likewise, the traffic police will take stringent action against cases that are noncompliance with traffic rules that include driving under influence of alcohol, not using helmets while riding on two-wheelers, not having two drivers in vehicle plying the long routes, and overcrowding or over speeding vehicles.
Passenger Help Desk set up at different places will facilitate passengers for booking and obtaining the tickets.
Likewise, the Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs’ General-Secretary Saroj Sitaula stated that transportation entrepreneurs would make necessary arrangements to facilitate around 2.5 million outbound passengers in Kathmandu Valley during the festivals.
