NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred the ‘Global Goalkeeper Award’ for the campaign ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan’ (Clean India Mission), launched by his government.

The award from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been presented to PM Modi by Bill Gates in New York.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was one of the projects that PM Modi launched in his first term in 2014.

PM Modi said that getting the prestigious award in the year of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary was significant for him.

He also dedicated the award to the Indians who helped him to transform the Swachh Bharat campaign into a ‘people’s movement’. (Agencies)
