Guthi Bill withdrawn from National Assembly

KATHMANDU: The controversial Guthi Bill has been withdrawn from Parliament formally on Tuesday.

The National Assembly unanimously endorsed a proposal presented by Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Kumari Aryal to withdraw the bill.

Last week, the government had decided to withdraw the controversial bill. However, the people mainly from Newar communities in Kathmandu Valley have been demanding the abrogation of the bill.

The highly-talked-about bill brought to ‘manage lands’ belonging to Guthis (religious, social trusts) has been widely protested and criticized.
