KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has unveiled a statue of the first man in space, Russian Astronaut, Yuri Gagarin, at Ratnapark. KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and astronaut Viktor Petrovich jointly unveiled the bust of Gagarin on the occasion of his 85th birth anniversary.

On the occasion, Mayor Shakya said that Shankapark would also be useful not only for entertainment but also for study, adding that opportunities have been received to exchange learning from Nepal’s diplomatic relation with Russia.

“Lifestyle of Gagarin, who entered outer space at the age of 27 and died at the age of 34, is an example of youth empowerment,” he said.

Similarly, Russian astronaut Viktor said that Russia was ready to provide technical support to Nepal for its development. Gagarin had entered outer space on April 12, 1961.
