Chandrayaan-2 makes 1st orbit-raising operation

NEW DELHI: The Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft has successfully carried out its first orbit-raising movement on Wednesday afternoon, according to Indian Space Research Organization (Isro).

The orbit-raising movement is an operation which places a spacecraft into a higher orbit.

The Chandrayaan-2, carrying a lunar rover, is said to perform a total of four orbit-raising manoeuvers around the Earth before finally heading to its destination — the Moon. It is expected to reach the Moon before August 20.

Chandrayaan-2, India’s second mission to the Moon, was launched on July 22 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. (Agencies)
