KATHMANDU:  Police have raided a house based in Maharajgunj-Bansbari near Sambhala Hotel, Chakrapath and arrested four persons this afternoon.

Police arrested them under suspicion that they were preparing to steal money from banks in Kathmandu by hacking ATMs, police said.

Earlier, in September-October, Nepal Police had arrested Chinese nationals while they were stealing money from banks in the capital by hacking ATM pins.

A case has been filed against them and they are currently serving a jail term under the Banking Offense and Organized Crime Act, 2064.

Police are carrying out raids across the city to identify illegal Chinese nationals based in the Kathmandu Valley on Monday.

This crackdown is taking place as part of preparation ahead of debate likely on illegal activities including ATM hacking by Chinese nationals, to be raised by the opposition in the parliament.

According to sources, plainclothes Chinese police are also involved with the Nepal Police.
