NAIROBI: Several Nepali girls who reached Kenya hoping to make money and help their families back home in Nepal have been arrested after police raided a human trafficking ring, a report has revealed.

Some girls who came to Kenya in November 2018 with the hope of finding a way to support their families back home in Nepal. However, they were forced to become victims of the sex slave.

Many of these girls came to Kenya through agents who offered them ‘lucrative’ jobs, according to a report published on Daily Nation.

However, when they reached there, the agents said they would be dancing gig at various restaurants in Nyali and elsewhere. The agents even confiscated their passports.

Most of the Nepali girls have the same story to narrate. They shared their stories with the police who were investigating a Kenya-based international human-trafficking syndicate. It has been clear that Kenya – once a transit point, had turned out into a sex destination.

However, police have arrested and charged Jetha, who is connected to some businessmen in the Kenyan coast. Jetha has also been charged with trafficking, promoting human trafficking and seizing the women’s passports.

The girls are given nicknames along with money targets. Their get from Sh50,000 to Sh80,000 monthly. They, however, receive only between Sh10,000 and Sh15,000 directly, according to the report.

The Nepali girls, who live in an apartment, know very little about their surroundings. They only had one day off in a month. (Agencies)
