Intoxicated husband sets house on fire, wife killed

DARCHULA: A woman has been burnt to death while trying to retrieve valuables from her home set on fire by her husband under the influence of alcohol.

The incident took place last night at Sundumundu of Naugad Rural Municipality-2.

Bimala Badal,30, died in the incident of fire that originated after her husband 32-year-old Sher Singh Badal set his bedroom on fire.  Sher Singh had reached home at night drunk and quarrel with his family members.

Following the fighting, all members of the family left home for the nearby jungle. Angry over it, Sher Singh lit his bedroom that engulfed the house, according to ward member Jaya Bhan Singh Thagunna.

Upon seeing the house in flames, the family members returned back and Bimala rushed in to save her valuables from being burnt. But she failed to return and died in the fire.

Following the incident, Sher Singh was arrested by the locals and handed over to police. Meanwhile, police have begun an investigation into the incident, according to DSP Dipendra Bahadur Shahi.
