KATHMANDU: The Chinese encroachment of Nepali land has not come to an end.

Most of the pillars demarcating Nepal and China have been missing from the Chinese side, leading to encroachment of Nepali lands.

Out of total 69 border pillars with China, pillars 36, 38, 63, 57 and 62 are still having problems.

Pillars no 36, 37 and 38 are missing from the Gorkha Tamkhola area in the Gorkha district.

Likewise, pillar no 57 is missing from Dolakha Lamabazar, Dolkha district and much more disputed, pillars 62 and 63 are missing from Bhanjhyang-Namcha in Solukhumbu district.

The missing of these pillars in the Chinese side is bone of contention between the two countries as this gives China a chance to encroach the Nepali lands, a government source said.

Likewise, the Chinese encroachment in Kamukhola, Aruna River and Sumjungkhola of Sankhuwasabha district continues at a rapid pace.

“China is dithering on the said issue despite Nepal’s countless requests to maintain status quo as China shares a boundary of 1,414 kilometers along Nepal,” the source said.

According to the source, there is a strong need to deploy a dedicated border security force along the Nepal-China and Nepal-India border point to protect the Nepali land.

India does its border security through BSF (along the Pakistani border and Bangladeshi border), and ITBP (along the China border).

Nepal, too, needs to establish a dedicated border security force to protect its lands both from India and China.

Noticeably, Nepal has asked India to settle border disputes but is least bothered to pressurize the Chinese side, the source added.
